Adjoining Alum Chine, Warren Road is very short and, combining with Drury Road, makes a crescent. At the junction, there is foot access to the Chine.

The houses are substantial villas – mainly now converted to flats. They are all on the north side. The first four houses would appear to have originally been identical. However, two have been rendered, and all have slightly different porches on the front.

St Ambrose Church, West Cliff Road, Westbourne is holding its Grand Summer Fête on Saturday 30 July 2016. Admission is free, and Ray Dorset, founder and lead singer of Mungo Jerry, will be opening the fête at 11.30am.

There will be plenty for all the family, including all the usual stalls and food. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day, with the grand draw taking place at 4pm. (more…)

Glenhurst Manor Westbourne Garden Party.
This Saturday, 23 July 2016, Glenhurst Manor Westbourne will be hosting their annual Garden Party. Situated in the superb grounds of this delightful period manor house, the event will run from 2pm – 4.30pm.

As usual, they will be raising funds for two local charities. This year, they have decided to support the Bournemouth Blind Society and Victoria School for the Disabled once again. (more…)

Denewood Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth.
Denewood Road is named after the large house on Alum Chine Road. The implication would be that this has been built in the grounds of the property ‘Denewood’.

The houses here, and there are nine of them packed into (for this area of Westbourne) a fairly small space. The design is quite compact, with number 6 tucked round the side of number 8, accessed through a short driveway. (more…)
Colosseum and Lavish Life Refurbishment

Colosseum and Lavish Life Refurbishment.
Further to the recent blog on the Colosseum Cinema and Lavish Life Café refurbishment, we are please to be able to offer this further update. The re-opening has been put back, as what started out as a minor redecoration project has become a full-blown refurbishment. The current estimate is that it will be completed during the first week in August.

The cinema will stay the same – 3 films a day, with kids Saturday morning shows. They will continue to offer kids and adult private parties – birthdays etc. The venue will be available to hire out to anyone who wants to book. (more…)

Clarendon Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth.
Clarendon Road runs north-south from Poole Road to West Cliff Road, at the top of Middle Chine. It is a generally quiet thoroughfare, wide by many standards.

Continue to the north, and you head down towards the former Bournemouth West Railway Station. To the south, and you can either walk down Middle Chine to the beach, or go round onto the West Overcliff Drive to enjoy the sea views. (more…)

Marlborough Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth.
Marlborough Road is another residential street similar to Portarlington Road, which branches off near its eastern end. Running east-west, it is parallel to and the next south from Poole Road.

Once again, it is largely a thoroughfare of two halves. The eastern part retaining much in the way of the original Victorian villas. Once Clarendon Road is crossed, then the villas are replaced by more modern blocks of flats. (more…)

100 Years of Hants and Dorset Buses – Poole Celebration.
Sunday 10 July saw the celebration of 100 years of Hants and Dorset buses. Once a familiar sight in the Bournemouth area, including Westbourne, the name has been replaced by the More Bus brand.

Historic vehicles were gathered together on show on Poole Quayside. Many giving the public the opportunity for free rides around the Poole area. Familiar buses from the past were enjoyed by the large number of people who came along. (more…)
